The rifle was built for Lt Col D B Mckenzie in 1945 and is engraved with Scottish motifs designed by the owner.

D B McKenzie was born in 1894 and saw service in both World Wars. After many overseas posts, he returned to Europe in 1945 to be placed in charge of the Displaced Persons camps and was based in Klagenfurt, Austria. Ferlach was just a few miles away and in common with many British officers, he ordered himself a new sporting rifle to enjoy the local sport. He apparently struck up a friendship with Frau Bertha Krupp when he sought permission to fish her river and this rifle was a result of that introduction. He became liaison officer to the American forces in Salzberg and enjoyed his fishing and chamois shooting, returning home to Scotland in 1947. He died in 1976.
