The gun was built on a trigger plate action, patent no. 950 of 1878 granted to Lionel Gye of 60, St James St, London. The action was apparently only produced for a very short time because Westley Richards threatened legal action over possible patent infringement. The barrel length appears to be original and is highly unusual for a gun of this date.
