S58 The action was patented in Great Britain by François Eugene Schneider in 1861. This was a major contribution to the evolution of the breech-loading sporting gun and centrefire cartridge and was soon recognised by English gunmaker, George Henry Daw, who marketed his own version of this gun the following year. The Eley Brothers collection mark indicates that the gun was probably supplied to them for cartridge development from new.
