The markings "A. H." indicates that Alex Henry was involved in the manufacture.
Lieutenant General Sir Reginald Pole-Carew, KCB, CVO (1st May 1849 to 19th September 1924)
General Pole-Carew was a staff officer with Lord Roberts in the second Anglo-Afghan War of 1878 and again with him during the second Boer War in 1899. He commanded the 9th Brigade and then the 11th Division of the South African Field Force where he achieved his fame.
