The gun was formerly the property of the well-known American shot Russell B. Aitken (1910-2002). This gun is recorded as having been used in competition in 1957 at Monte Carlo, Estoril and Madrid. Robert Churchill described Aitken as the "greatest all round shot" he had ever encountered and he was often referred to as an icon of American marksmanship.

The gun was completed in 1995 and appears almost unused and retains almost all of its original finish. The vendor states that the gun was to have been Pete Symes' personal gun and although started first, it was put to one side when subsequent customer orders were received. It was only completed when ordered by the current owner with the request that the maker build him a 20-bore over and under gun in the shortest possible time.
