The guns are described in great detail in Joseph Nickerson's classic book, "A Shooting Man's Creed".
Sir Joseph Nickerson (1914-1990)
A brilliant shot and agricultural pioneer, he will remain most famous for the record bag of partridge taken on the 3 October 1952, the "Great Day". His book !A Shooting Man's Creed" was published in 1989 and provides a wealth of information about shoot management and shooting. Regarding guns, he was a great advocate for the over and under and maintained that the best of this type were by Woodward. When Purdey took over Woodward at the end of 1948 he was their first customer for the new Purdey over and under, the beginning of an association that was to last the rest of his life. In total he ordered thirteen guns of this type, including three trios.
