A .300 HAMMER ROOK RIFLE, NO. 10114, OF HOLLAND & HOLLAND PATTERN 26-inch octagonal barrel with folding leaf sight to 150, the frame with central hammer and side lever, with scroll engraving and retaining faint traces of hardening colour, 14 3/4-inch figured straight hand stock with steel butt plate, 5lb. 8oz., special definitive proof S58 The rifle appears to be an example of Holland & Holland's celebrated "Five Guinea Rifle". Although the barrel top surface is not signed, the serial number is in the correct range and the barrel underside is stamped with the HJH mark that is usually found on these rifles, as illustrated on page 81 in Colin Greenwood's book on the subject. |
