MANNLICHER A 6.5MM MODEL 1903 BOLT-ACTION STUTZEN CARBINE, NO. 10530 18-inch barrel with ramp fore sight and folding leaf sight, the receiver fitted for a telescopic sight, bolt with flag safety, rotary magazine, double set triggers, the full length figured stock with pistol grip, cheekpiece and ribbed butt plate, impressed with retailer's serial number 25907, 14 1/4-inch pull, sling swivels, 6lb. 12oz., nitro proof, in its canvas full length case with William Evans label. the lid impressed "Lord Brabourne" S1 The rifle was purchased by Michael Knatchbull, 5th Baron Brabourne. Lord Brabourne served as Governor of Bombay, Bengal and acted as Viceroy of India in 1938. His son, John Knatchbull, 7th Baron Brabourne married the Hon Patricia Mountbatten in 1946, daughter of Lord Louis Mountbatten and the rifle was passed down through the family. John Knatchbull had a successful career as a television and Oscar nominated film producer and survived the 1979 IRA bomb that killed his father-in-law Lord Louis Mountbatten, as well as his mother and young son. |
