A 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUN, NO. 13838

30-inch chopper-lump Whitworth steel barrels with 2 3/4-inch chambers, about true cylinder and 1/2 choke borings, mid extension, matted pigeon rib, the breeches engraved "Field Barrels", the re-coloured frame, locks and top lever with fine bouquet and scroll engraving, the maker's name signed in gold, the clipped fences heavily carved with oak leaves and acorns, retaining much of its renewed hardening colour, line cocking indicators, rolled edge trigger guard, 15-inch well figured replacement stock including leather covered recoil pad, 7lb. 2oz., nitro re-proof, leather case with reproduction label

The maker confirms that the gun was built in 1891 for a Mr C(a)dahy. The specification is for a gun with spare Whitworth steel barrels with pigeon rib, third grip, clip sides, pistol grip hand and very little engraving. The records further note that the stock was fitted with a removable counterweight to be used subject to which barrels were fitted to the gun.

The gun appears to have been extensively reworked and now has full engraving and renewed hardening colour. The stock and fore-end (including iron) have been replaced. The maker has no record of this subsequent work.
