The maker confirms that the gun was built as the No. 1 gun of a pair for A. Campbell. The guns were used by Sir Malcolm Campbell until his death in 1949, when they were subsequently given to the present owner's uncle by Donald Campbell.
Sir Malcolm Campbell
Sir Malcolm Campbell broke the land speed record nine times between 1924 and 1935 and was the first person to drive at more than 300mph. His car, Bluebird, is the best known of all record-breaking vehicles. He also set the world water speed record four times in his Bluebird boat, attaining a record speed of 141.7mph in 1939. He died in 1948 and his son Donald continued the family tradition and was himself the holder of both land and water speed records until his death on Coniston Water in 1967. |
