GYE & MONCRIEFF A SCARCE 12-BORE PATENT BOXLOCK NON-EJECTOR GUN, NO. 1598 25-inch blacked damascus barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about 1/2 choke borings, the semi rounded frame, trigger plate and top lever profusely engraved with water fowl scenes, pierced top lever, 14 1/2-inch figured replacement stock, 7lb., black powder proof, bores marked S2 The gun was built on a trigger plate action, patent no. 950 of 1878 granted to Lionel Gye of 60, St James St, London. The action was apparently only produced for a very short time because Westley Richards threatened legal action over possible patent infringement. The barrel length appears to be original and is highly unusual for a gun of this date. |
