PURDEY & SONS A SCARCE PAIR OF 12-BORE 'B' QUALITY SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUNS, NOS. 14795/6 30-inch Whitworth steel chopper-lump barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, grouse bored with 1/2 choke and true cylinder borings, the frames, locks and numbered top levers with fine scroll engraving and retaining faint traces of original hardening colour, 15 1/2-inch figured stock including 1 1/2-inch extension, No.2 gun stock a replacement, 6lb. 13oz., black powder proof, in their maker's leather case S2 The maker confirms that the guns were built in 1894 and the records state "choked in reverse". The guns have remained with the same family from new. The 'B' quality model is seldom seen and appears to differ from the Best quality gun, only in the absence of rose bouquets from the engraving pattern. |
