A SCARCE .450 NO.1 R.I.C. REVOLVER, NO. 4178
4 1/2-inch barrel, flat top surface, the solid frame with winged bullet trademark, the top surface impressed with retailer's name, Army & Navy C.S.L., retaining much of its nickel plated finish overall, loading gate and swing-out ejector rod, one piece walnut grip with lanyard, black powder proof, in its maker's oak case with oil bottle, etc
The pistol is sold with a letter from Captain Aubrey Moore (MC) giving a brief history of the revolver's use during the First World War. He states that on mobilisation in September 1914, as revolvers were not available for territorials, his father lent him this revolver, which he took to the front. "This revolver served me until June 1916 when I received a .45 Webley just before the start of the Somme offensive on July 1st 1916, so it had over a year active service and was used offensively, mainly shooting rats".
