the no.1 gun with 30-inch barrels, the no. 2 gun with 26-inch shortened barrels, both with chopper-lump Whitworth steel barrels with 2 5/8-inch chambers about improved cylinder borings, the frames, locks and numbered top levers with fine bouquet and scroll engraving and retaining much original hardening colour, 15 1/4-inch well figured stocks including 1-inch extensions and rubber recoil pads, No. 2 broken at the hand, 6lb. 4oz., nitro proof

James Purdey & Sons confirm that the guns were built in 1896 and that they shortened them from the original length in October 1932, when they were re-proofed and re-chambered.
