JOSEPH LANG A 12-BORE HAMMER GUN, NO. 2227, CONVERTED FROM PINFIRE 29 3/4-inch damascus barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about true cylinder borings, single bite action, the rounded frame, underlever, non-rebounding backlocks and hammers with scroll engraving, 14 1/4-inch highly figured stock, 6lb. 12oz., black powder proof S2 The gun was built circa 1859 as a pinfire gun with the early forward lever action and is typical of the early pinfire guns by this maker. It has subsequently been converted to centrefire with modifications to the standing breech and fences. It is one of a pair made for Lord Ashley, 7th Earl of Shaftesbury (1801 to 1885). |
