26 1/2-inch damascus barrels with full length rib and folding leaf sights, full length ram rod, engraved breeches with platinum plugs, the frame with sliding top catch, the non-rebounding back locks and bolted hammers with fine scroll engraving, the maker's name signed within a scrolling banner, 14 1/2-inch stock with chequered butt plate, 9lb. 6oz., London black powder proof, ribs loose, some refinishing overall, stock with repair above left lock
The maker confirms that the rifle was built in 1857 for Major Grote. Four barrelled guns and rifles became a Lancaster speciality. On this example the barrels rotate on a central spigot allowing each pair to be fired in turn. |
