26-inch barrels with full length machined rib, raised fore sight, rear sight with folding leaves to 200, engraved breeches and crossbolt extension, the frame with bolstered and arcaded fences and finely engraved with delicate scrollwork surrounding scenes of emu and kangaroo in the Outback, retaining some of its original hardening colour, top lever with gold inlaid crown, the trigger guard engraved with a coiled cobra, gold washed lockwork and triggers, non-automatic side safety, 14 1/4-inch highly figured stock with fancy chequering and engraved steel butt plate, folding peep sight mounted at the hand, 5lb. 14oz., nitro proof, leg of mutton case
The maker confirms that the rifle was built in 1912 as a Facile Princeps actioned "Royal" model, Greener's highest grade. The rifle is built to the very highest standards and retains much original finish. It was built for the Australian market where the .310 Cadet calibre was a common military round. The scenes of kangaroo and emu indicate the native game for which the rifle was intended. "Royal" grade rifles are especially rare and Graham Greener recalls seeing only three other examples. |
