A FINE ALAN BROWN-ENGRAVED 12-BORE SELF-OPENING SIDELOCK EJECTOR GUN, NO. 69862

28-inch chopper-lump barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about 1/4 and 3/4 choke borings, the frame, locks and top lever with fine scroll engraving, surrounding highly detailed scenes of game birds in flight and retaining all of its original bright cyanide-hardened finish, the left lock engraved with pheasants flying over guns against a woodland background, the right lock engraved with grouse flying past a stone grouse butt, the action base with small factory scene, the lockplates both signed "A M Brown", lined cocking indicators and rolled edge trigger guard, 15 1/4-inch highly figured stock including 1/2-inch ebonite extension, 6lb. 9oz., nitro proof, in its brassbound oak and leather case with maker's label

The gun was built using the finest outworkers working in the London Trade at the time. The gun was proofed in 1986 and was likely finished circa 1988/9. Alan Brown has subsequently become one of the most renowned English gun engravers and his speciality is highly detailed game scenes of the type featured on this gun. The self-opening action used is the Henry Atkin variant of the classic Purdey Beesley design.
