A FINE 12-BORE PINFIRE HAMMER GUN, NO. 2787

30-inch damascus barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about true cylinder borings, the rounded frame, non rebounding back locks, hammers and rotary underlever with fine scroll engraving and retaining much of its original hardening colour, 14 1/2-inch highly figured stock with engraved steel butt plate, 6lb. 14oz., black powder proof, in its maker's leather case with some original accessories, the lid impressed "E. G. G. Sutton"

The maker confirms that the gun was made circa 1869. It is unusual to find a pinfire gun in such good original condition.

Edmund George Gresham Sutton (1844-1903) is recorded as being a first class English cricketer, active between 1864 and 1873, Marylebone Cricket Club. As a player he is recorded as playing alongside W. G. Grace, among others.
