The maker's records confirm that the gun was built for J. J. Geldart in 1870. The butt plate is engraved "R. W. G. to H. C. G., 1870". The gun incorporates three classic Horsley patents, namely the sliding top lever, self-retracting strikers and loaded indicators. Examples of Horsley guns with all three classic features are scarce.
