The maker confirms that the pistols were ordered on 29 March 1853 by H. J. Standley of Bury St Edmonds.
Boss built very few percussion pistols. A total of just sixteen have been recorded, of which half are listed as double barrel pistols. This pair are the last recorded double barrel pistols that Boss built.
The pistols are described and illustrated in Donald Dallas' second edition of "Boss & Co., Best Gun Makers".
