The gun conforms to T. Woodward patent 651 of 1876 and was formerly the property of the well-known writer Geoffrey Boothroyd.

Geoffrey Boothroyd is perhaps best known as the armourer to James Bond. He advised Ian Fleming on firearms and was immortalised as Major Boothroyd (or 'Q')in the series of James Bond books. He wrote numerous books on guns and firearms and contributed well over a thousand articles on vintage guns to "Shooting Times" magazine and other publications. He died in 2001.
