A SCARCE PAIR OF PURDEY PATENT 20-BORE "ELECTRIC SPOTTER CARTRIDGES"
the 15 1/4-inch nickel plated cartridge tubes with compartment for batteries, each engraved "J. Purdey & Sons, London, Patent No.333540, Made in England"
The Purdey "Spotter Cartridge" was provisionally patented in 1929 and first advertised in 1930 at a cost of £2 10s. Designed for indoor use, they would shine a beam of light down the barrel when the gun was fired to allow for silent indoor practice. |
