J. PURDEY & SONS A PAIR OF 12-BORE SIDELOCK NON-EJECTOR GUNS, NOS. 14188/9 29-inch Whitworth steel chipper-lump barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about true cylinder, 1/2 and 1/4, 3/4 choke borings respectively, the No.2 gun barrels later replacements by the maker, the frames, locks and numbered top levers with bouquet and scroll engraving, cocking indicators, 14 3/4-inch well figured replacement stocks, 6lb 10oz., nitro proof (No.1 gun black powder proof), bores pitted S2 The maker confirms that the guns were built in 1892. The guns were originally ordered as non-ejector guns, although by this time ejectors had become standard. Consequently, although not fitted, the action and fore-end appear to be already machined to accept the additional parts required. This is confirmed by the note in the maker's records "provision for ejectors". |
