28-inch barrels sleeved by Westley Richards with 2 1/2-inch chambers about 1/4 and 1/2 choke borings, doll's head extension, the scroll backed frames and gold numbered patent top levers with scroll engraving, the maker's name signed within a scrolling banner, selective single triggers, the hinged base plates opening to reveal the hand-detachable lockwork, 14 1/4-inch well figured stocks including 1-inch extensions, 6lb. 13oz., nitro proof, in their maker's brassbound oak and leather case
The maker confirms that the guns were built for Samuel Howard Whitbread (1858-1944). A member of the Whitbread brewing family and Member of Parliament (1892-1911) and Lord Lieutenant of Bedfordshire until 1936. |
