Colonel Stephenson Clarke was a well known naturalist and ornithologist. He presented his numerous collections to the British Museum, including nearly 10,000 birds. His interests were extremely widespread and their were few areas of sport or natural history with which he had no acquaintance. His knowledge of plants and trees was profound and his collection of trees and shrubs at Borde Hill in Sussex has been famous since the 1930s. |
