A 12-BORE PATENT BAR-IN-WOOD HAMMER GUN, NO. 2122

30-inch damascus barrels with 2 1/2-inch chambers, about true cylinder borings, the rib engraved with the patent nos. 2410 and 1138, the frame, rebounding bar locks, hammers and numbered sliding top lever with fine scroll engraving, the hammers with cams for the patent self-retracting strikers, the fences with distinctive loaded indicators, 14 1/4-inch figured stock with ribbed butt plate, 7lb., left barrel wall thickness below the recommended minimum, bores lightly marked, black powder proof
S2

The maker's records confirm that the gun was built in 1873 and incorporates the three key Horsley features, namely the patent sliding bolt, self-retracting strikers and loaded indicators. The function of the self-retracting strikers appears to have been disabled when the gun was converted to a re-bounding lock.
