A .410 SINGLE BARREL GUN, NO. 2745, CONVERTED FROM A ROOK RIFLE 26-inch part octagonal barrel with 2 1/2-inch chamber about 1/4 choke boring, automatic ejector, the top surface possibly spuriously engraved "Holland & Holland", the frame with side lever and central hammer, retaining traces of hardening colour, 14 1/2-inch figured stock with pistol grip, 4lb. 7oz., nitro proof
This pattern of rook rifle was among many that were retailed by Holland & Holland. A similar example is illustrated in Colin Greenwood's classic work on the subject. The serial number however would appear to pre-date the introduction of this type of rifle and it is quite possible that this example originally bore another maker's name. |
