30-inch barrels with 2 3/4-inch chambers, about improved cylinder and 3/8 choke borings, the file-cut rib with top extension, rear sight removed, engraved "Patent Duplex Choke", the plain frame with top lever and retaining faint traces of original hardening colour, 14-inch figured stock, 6lb. 14oz., nitro proof, bores marked

The maker confirms that the gun was built in 1915 as one of a batch of approximately 100 guns delivered to the Admiralty for use by the Royal Naval Air Service to counter the German Zeppelin threat. The gun originally incorporated the Duplex two-stage choke (subsequently removed) and would have fired a special chain shot cartridge, patent no. 23196 of 27th November 1914 with the intention of tearing the gas bags and damaging the rigging of the enemy craft.
