CHARLES LANCASTER A RARE 12-BORE PATENT FOUR-BARREL HAMMERLESS SHOT AND BALL GUN, NO. 5326 24-inch damascus barrels with 3 1/4-inch chambers, true cylinder borings, the massive re-coloured frame and rotary underlever with border engraving, retaining all of its renewed hardening colour, Tranter-style double trigger, rotating striker, top strap with safety catch, 15 1/2-inch highly figured stock with pistol grip, 10lb., recent nitro re-proof, in its fitted leather case with reproduction maker's label
The maker confirms that the gun was built in 1883 for Captain Collier with 24-inch barrels as a shot and ball gun with double cocking trigger. It conforms with Thorn's Patent 1242 of 1881 covering the rotating tumbler and trigger mechanism. The guns has been extensively refurbished to the very highest standard and was re-proofed for nitro in 2005. It is thought that this is the only example of a 12-bore four-barrel gun that Lancaster built. |
