MAUSER A .250-3000 BOLT-ACTION SPORTING RIFLE, NO. 95697 22-inch barrel with ramp fore sight and fixed rear sight, scarce Kurz action, the bolt with flag safety, magazine with hinged base plate, half length stock with pistol grip, cheekpiece and maker's butt plate, the silver escutcheon engraved "FW from Brock, 1926", 14 1/4-inch pull, 6lb. 8oz., German nitro proof, rear stock screw missing S1 The rifle was a gift from Frank Wallace's great friend Lt Col H. C. Brocklehurst. Brocklehurst was a captain in the 10th Hussars and Royal Flying Corps and later was an explorer and big game hunter. In WWII he rejoined the army and was Commander 2nd Special Service Detachment, a commando unit in Burma and was killed in action during the Japanese invasion. |
