The rifle appears well used and clearly had a long service life. The "EY" marking indicates an emergency class of rifle, worn beyond local repair and it appears to have been converted for use with a cup discharger at this point. The serial number dates the rifle to 1918 and the receiver is clearly marked on the left side "RAF" and with an impressed broad arrow and military inspector's mark. S1
